"About a girl."
Im Jinah, problematic daughter of a socialite Japanese mother who had never intended to have a child and a Korean father she knows little to nothing about other than his family name. Jinah spent the vast majority of her life in Japan to the extent of her feeling somewhat more Japanese than she perhaps does Korean. It isn't a case of preferring her Japanese blood any more than her Korean heritage and instead due to the fact that her father disappeared from her life when she was a small child, taking with him any chance of a young Jinah understanding her culture and most importantly herself. Her mother, a beautiful, no nonsense woman who often stated she wasn't maternal and preferred male company to that of her own daughter raised her to the best of her ability but it was never quite enough, particularly because she was never there. Young Im Jinah often felt like an outsider looking in on a culture she wanted to be part of (that she was part of, wasn't she?) but could never completely connect with (the kids at school had always made it very clear to her that she wasn't Japanese, she'd never be Japanese), thus came her teenage years and with it, the Korean classes, the Korean dramas and the soul searching. Im Jinah had been forced to grow up very young.

Jinah was never altogether academic but languages had always come to her far easier than everything else, had always been her strong point for as long as she could remember so it was only natural that she'd pursue a career in linguistics. She was often told it was in her blood. Her grades in her Japanese literature and Mandarin classes being the only grades worth shouting about. It took a lot of persussion from her family and commitment on her own to get through her last year of high school with the grades to graduate. Months of private tuition and determination not to fail.

It was after the accusations of a relationship with a teacher surfaced that she was withdrawn from school and home-schooled instead. Like every other teenager, Jinah had been through a phase, if it could be considered one. The drinking, smoking, late nights, underage sex, being led astray by people older than her, by people who used her for her family fortune, by boys who only saw her pretty face and not much else. Ultimately she had fell in with the wrong crowd, fell in love with the wrong kind of boy (who would become one of many) and it was all about fitting in, making people like her, being wanted, being loved. Jinah had learned from a rather young age that her pretty face and slender physique could get her almost anything she wanted if her bank balance didn't do the trick, a trait she picked up from her mother no doubt. Perhaps it was a cry for help, perhaps it was to rub her mother the wrong way or perhaps she was just damaged. Having a mother who is never there and a father she doesn't know was bound to do some lasting damage sooner or later. Inevitably, her mother brought a new man into the house and expected Jinah to call him dad. This man came with a handful of brand new siblings. Jinah's father was being replaced, as was she.

Her father? His whereabouts are unknown and she would only be lying if she said she didn't want to know that part of herself, if she didn't want to find him. Every time a young Jinah would ask her mother about him, she would respond short and to the point, "He left us. He isn't coming back. Leave it be, Jinah." She learned not to question it too much. Throughout her life she had come up with a few theories of her own, most of which led to the resentment of her mother and ultimately herself. Didn't he love her? Did her mother tell him to leave? Was he one of her many flings? Her mother, however, despite her lack of parenting skills and love, tried her best to give her everything money could buy. She attended a good school, she paid for the variety of hobbies she went through as a child, none of which she was actually interested in, everything from ballet lessons to traditional dance, tennis to koto classes. They never did lack financially but money could never buy the most important things in life, love and attention. Her mother is a good person, despite being emotionally closed off and deep down, she knows her mother loves her in her own, twisted way. Mother and daughter aren't all too dissimilar after all.

Jinah's first Korean vacation had been with her mother in her early teens, completely enthralled by the experience and how things were similar but yet not quite the same. Seoul, a fast paced metropolis of bright lights and big dreams. It was everything she expected it to be and so much more. The decision to apply for university in Korea was quite possibly the easiest she's ever had to make, leaving behind everything she knew to seek a new life elsewhere, somewhere she knew nobody. But perhaps that's what she needed, a clean slate, to finally be free of her mother, to experience something new, to get out and see the world. It sounds somewhat cliche but the moment she touched down on Korean soil, it almost felt like coming home.
"Live for the present."
The decision to join a sorority was one that Jinah had made entirely without thinking but it had turned out to be one of the best decisions she has ever made. A solid group of friends who have her back and her best interests at heart is exactly what she has always needed, now more than ever, being in a foreign country and all. Fitting in and being liked for who she is, is still somewhat of a struggle for her but despite all of her identity issues, she feels more at peace than she's ever done. Her Korean, almost perfect and improving every day. Jinah isn't entirely free of homesickness and she isn't altogether sure what she wants to do with her life just yet but there's plenty of time to decide. She does, however, know that she plans on having fun along the way. Lots of fun. It could either go horribly wrong or incredibly right.
"I'm not stubborn. My way is just better."
It's never completely certain which Im Jinah is the real one. Most people would describe her as cold and off-putting if they were asked to describe her personality in two words. However, get to know her well enough and you'll come to realise that she's anything but so, bubbly and bright in the presence of those she's most comfortable with. Jinah would be the first to admit that she's rather difficult to get to know, puts up far too many barriers around herself and doesn't often give people the time of day, let enough the chance to become her friend. The friends that she does have, however, she cherishes them above all else and would ultimately do anything for them -- which in turn might make her slightly easy to manipulate. If you get to know her, you'll come to learn she isn't the cold, cunning fox you once thought she was, instead she's gentle and good natured. There's so many sides to Jinah, even she isn't sure which is the realest.

Standing at 171cm at all, Jinah is pretty and she knows it. Confident in both her looks and her tall, slender physique, which she credits to intensive yoga and Pilates classes in her downtime, good genes and banana milk. Wearing short shorts, skirts, low-cut tops and heels sometimes gives off the wrong impression but she does enjoy the attention all the same, what girl wouldn't. Having said that, she dresses nice for herself and not for anyone else, the attention that comes with it is merely just a perk. As a child she did feel like somewhat of an outcast standing taller than the rest of the girls and it sometimes makes dating slightly difficult when you're taller than most of the boys you know. She has since learned to embrace it though. No boy could ever keep her away from her favourite pair of heels.

In the ZTA house, she's the go-to girl whenever you're in need of some beauty therapy, Jinah loves making other's feel good about themselves. But despite how much Jinah enjoys hair, make up, nice clothes and all things girly, there's nothing better than kicking back and relaxing in your biggest, comfiest sweater and your oldest pair of sweats. Of which Jinah can often be found doing in the Zeta house when it's time to knuckle down and study or write up essays. Despite being pretty, she's no airhead and actually takes her studies relatively seriously. People often make the mistake of writing her off far too quickly based upon the way she looks. She's more than capable of holding her own in an intellectual conversation.

Jinah, whilst being financially secure thanks to her family back in Japan, doesn't shout about her bank balance from the rooftops. She is modest and sure, she might own nice clothes and never have to worry about how she's going to eat next week or pay her tuition fees but she's grateful for what she has, for the life she has. Things could have worked out very differently, she understands she's had a very privileged life. In turn, she's always happy to help out a friend in need, no matter the cause.

Jinah, for some reason or another, seems to attract the wrong kind of boys and subsequently, doesn't have the best track record when it comes to relationships. Since starting university, there's been a few of them. Some she's still in contact with, others she has since cut all ties with. Since her last ex-boyfriend she's made a promise to herself, no more relationships, no more broken hearts, she's going to concentrate on her studies and nothing but her studies. Which is probably going to be easier said than done when the next sweet talker comes around.
